Not every geopolitical subject needs to be treated in article form, but many nonetheless deserve notice. We have created a Monthly Dispatch in order to provide regular maps and short case-by-case analyses on newsworthy though perhaps unfamiliar situations around the world.These are not tied to any particular area and exist apart from our regular issues of Heartland.
The purpose of the Dispatch is not to advance a particular grand theory or system. Instead we aim to call attention to geopolitical realities on the ground, building up from maps. No doubt, various themes will emerge over time: clashes between feuding ethnic and religious groups; the often-unforeseen influence that great powers wield over smaller ones; conflicts over resources and territory, to mention just a few.
